The Ornithologist and the BirdBath Spa

The Ornithologist and the BirdBath Spa:
Lucky for this ornithologist (or maybe, lucky for the birds) the BirdBath Spa is dry today. Come tomorrow, it should be brimming with rain water if the forecast holds true. Regardless, she has made herself right at home. >^..^<

What kinds of birds show up at your birdbath?

It's the Teeny Peony Things

Rich, luscious red peonies soaking up the recent rain.  The closer you look, the more beauty you see.  I hope that Jane Iredale creates a lipstick that is just this color!

Loving Spring!

What BIG Eyes You Have (my dear)

Working the camera zoom.

Goodness, what big eyes you have.....(the better to see you with, my dear)

What a big nose you have....(the better to smell you with)

What a big mouth you have (the better to eat you with).... Or, better yet, after that big yawn he's ready for a cat nap. >^..^<

What do you think of this fella? Not quite the big bad wolf, eh?!

Back in action with pastels!

Over the past few months, I've been taking pastel classes at a local art center. Using a print of a painting as my reference by mouth artist Mariusz Maczka called Floral Brilliance, I re-created the artwork in pastels -- thus re-acclimating myself to pastels after having not used them for over 30 years (yikes!!!).

Maczka's artwork is stunning, especially knowing that he painted his original all by mouth...simply amazing. More info on Maczka can be found here: http://www.vdmfk.com/unsu/vdmfk-mednarodno/umetniki-po-svetu/po-drzavah.html?tx_kuenstlerdb_pi1%5Bartist%5D=609&tx_kuenstlerdb_pi1%5Bmode%5D=DETAIL

Thanks for the inspiration Maczka. I'm humbled by your talent.

Mystery Item: Flea Market Find

At the flea market, even the vendor hadn't a clue. So, I asked my Facebook followers for their best guesses to what in the world is the purpose of this cute, little ditty.

And, they responded! It's a silverware caddy for a buffet. Well, I'm not planning any dinner buffets anytime soon, so I came up with my own ideas....

I'd love to hear your ideas for other uses!

Feel What the Drawing Needs

In art class at the York Art Association, we had a very indepth discussion and demonstration about perspective - 1 point, 2 point and 3 point perspective. That was heavy-duty. So, the next exercise was not perspective related at all...! It was a fun, carefree, abstract, 45 minute exercise to add what you "feel" the drawing needs. Not over-thinking and analyzing, rather simply draw, shade, texture as you feel the drawing needs.

Furniture Photo Shoot in the Garden

The "pink snow" falling from last week's blooming crab apples provided the perfect backdrop to photograph my latest decorative painting project: a fabulously French side board. (previously red). The Creative Director showed up to make sure the shoot was going according to plan...

The Creative Director arrives.
